Your information, in your hands

Privacy Policy

A clear look at what stays on your device, what reaches our server, and the choices you have.

Patriot for iPhone · Effective October 8, 2026

Patriot is published by WIDGET WORKS LLP.

The short version

  • No accounts. We never ask for your email address or phone number. The optional first name you can type during setup, used only to greet you, never leaves your device.
  • No ads, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and no tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
  • We never read the advertising identifier (IDFA) and never sell or share data with data brokers.
  • What we receive is tied only to a random install ID created on your device. It is not linked to who you are.
  • Data on our servers is deleted after 13 months, and you can delete it any time from the app.

What stays on your device

Your optional first name, favorites, the voices, eras and topics you chose or hid, theme, widget settings, daily reminder time, streak and quiz scores are stored on your device (shared only with Patriot's own widgets through an App Group). They are not sent to us. The birthday date you can try during setup is used once on screen and not saved.

Daily reminders are scheduled locally on your device by iOS. If you save a quote card to Photos, the app asks for add-only access and never reads your photo library.

What our server receives

DataWhy
Install ID: a random identifier generated by the app and kept in your device's keychain Groups the data below so it can be counted and deleted. It is not your Apple ID or any device identifier.
Usage events: event names with small details, for example "app opened", "onboarding completed" (theme and how many figures you picked or hid), "widget added" or "widget removed" (widget kind and size), "quote opened" or "favorite added" (quote number), "share card created", which onboarding screen was shown or skipped, whether you allowed reminders, "source opened", "collection opened", quiz and civics practice scores, streak milestones, subscription-screen views and successful purchase events (selected plan), plus the app and iOS version To understand which features people use and fix what does not work (first-party analytics only).
Push token: the Apple Push Notification service token for this install To send silent background updates so widgets refresh when new content or a half-staff notice is published.
Quote reports: when you tap Report on a quote, the quote number, the reason you pick and an optional note you type (up to 280 characters) To check and correct the quote against its source. Please do not include personal information in the note.

The app also downloads content (quotes, history, the current half-staff status) from our server. Like any web request this reveals your IP address to the server to deliver the response; we do not store IP addresses in our database. Our request logs record the route, status and timing only, without IP addresses, request bodies or install IDs (the only exception is failed sign-ins to our staff admin page, which log the address for security). Application and access logs are kept no longer than 30 days.

What we do not collect

Name, email, phone number, contacts, precise or coarse location, photos, health, financial or payment information, browsing history, or any identifier used for advertising. Apple handles subscription payments; we do not receive your card or bank details.

How long we keep it

DataKept for
Usage eventsAbout 13 months. They are deleted in whole-month batches, so no event is kept longer than 14 months
Install record (first and last seen, app and iOS version)Until 13 months without any activity
Quote reports13 months
Push tokensUntil Apple reports the token is no longer valid, or 13 months without a refresh

Database backups are kept for a limited time and roll off within 35 days.

Deleting your data

Open the app, go to Profile and tap Delete my data (or use Delete my app data on the subscription screen). This immediately deletes the usage events, quote reports, push token and install record for this install from our database, and the app starts over with a new random install ID. Your favorites and settings stay on your device; deleting the app removes them. If you delete the app without using the button, your server data is removed automatically after 13 months of inactivity.

Sharing

We do not sell, rent or share this data. It is stored by our hosting provider, which processes it only on our behalf, and push notifications are delivered through Apple's Push Notification service. We would disclose data only if required by law.

Children

Patriot is an educational history app with no accounts, chat or user profiles. Some historical texts describe combat; the App Store age rating reflects that content. The data collection and deletion practices described above apply to all installations.

Security

All traffic between the app and our server uses HTTPS. Database access is restricted and encrypted at rest.

Your choices and rights

You can turn off notifications in iOS Settings, remove widgets at any time and delete your server data from the app as described above. Because we cannot link the data to you, the in-app button is the way to exercise access or deletion rights; you can also contact us with questions.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update this page and its effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.

This website

This website does not use advertising cookies, analytics scripts, or contact forms. Our hosting provider processes network information, including your IP address, to deliver and secure the website. The anonymous install data described above relates to the iPhone app.

Contact

Patriot is coming soon. A direct support contact will be listed on our Support page before the App Store release.
